Success Story: Down at the Duck Pond

March 11, 2010 by jadeylangley

I used a little imagination yesterday.  I am forced to, taking my own pics.  I live in a very beautiful place.  Like most I always intended on moving away forever, but I ended up in the town I grew up in.  MY family is here, it is beautiful and has great history.  As a child I spent a lot of time outdoors, so I brought the baby and my camera down to one of those places: the Duck Pond.  That’s what we called it anyway.  I will say I was rather devastated to get down there and seeing they were putting up developments in the formerly, big, open field.

Success!  I got the first two pics in my first 3x timed photos. Done.  True story:  when I was 8 or 9 I fell in this pond.  I is right down the street from my parents house so I went down there to play.  I was so worried I would get in trouble I spent hours and hours laying on a rock in the sun hoping my clothes would dry.  Turns out my parents were wondering where I was for all that time!  My mom found me down there late afternoon.  I had nightmares about that fall for years.  I hold on to things.  Thank you for this family therapy session.

Fe Fi Fo Fum

Patience is a vurtue.  I was *this close* to quitting blogging yesterday.  I am extremely frustrated with school this week, as a result I am lowbrow brow-beating.  The baby was napping, the light was pretty and I needed outfit pics.  I am actually really happy with the results, despite looking like a giant, but I would say there was a kicking and screaming fit or two in the process of taking about 100 unused photos.

This is my first attempt at shorts and tights, I was going to go full on shorts since I was inside most the day, but it was a little breezy for running errands.  Yes I am back on the chambray shirt and gold tights but I need to get over not wanting to photograph pieces more than once.  I chose the tights to match the teeny tiny crest on the blazer.  See it? Oh and the chambray shoes?  Lucky Breaks winner!!  Best day ever!  Se how things are already turning around?

P.S. I took the funniest pic in this series that I am saving for a post of my biggest failures!

Why I love Etsy so, so Much

March 9, 2010 by jadeylangley

The packaging of EVERYTHING is so adorable.  I ordered this adorable vintage bag about a week ago from House of Hearts and could not be happier with it.  The condition is insane.  I really don’t think it has ever been used.  Look how sweet the little bow is!

This bag is the perfect size, the strap is long enough to wear as a cross-body, but thin enough to tuck in as use as a clutch.  Love that.  I am already thinking of the 1,000’s of ways I can work this into my wardrobe, with edgy pieces to soften them up and with frilly little dresses for a full on sugar coma.

Check out House of Hearts, it’s a great vintage Etsy shop with great service and, of course, cute packaging!

Secret Agent Mom

You really have to excuse my bootleg pics.  I did not plan around my hubby not being home for lunch anymore, I am certainly not getting up earlier than I have to (sorry, but Jadey is not a morning person) and it is too dark when he gets home.  I am working it out and daylight savings should solve all our problems. I also usually take a lot of my pictures on the weekend, which I of course did not do this weekend.  On a positive note: how nice is the weather?!  Loving it!  Though I have to admit the wind is a little annoying picture-wise but still feels lovely.

I actually edited in the dress in the last photo.  I am actually a pro flasher. We had a lovely day yesterday, we went down the the beach and played with all the “Indi’s” as Harper likes to call all dogs.  It is not as nice out today but it’s nice enough, we are off to the nearby coffee shop for quiche and to order cupcakes for Harper’s 1st birthday party this weekend.  Love.

I am taking a cue from Shopping the Closet and Everyday Chic NY and putting myself of a bit of a spending freeze.  If need to work my old clothes into my wardrobe or I have to get rid of them.  Period.  This dress is a Delia’s purchase from years ago.  I still love it, and need to wear it more.  I feel it can be much more of a go-to.

Happy Women’s Day!

March 8, 2010 by jadeylangley

Apparently today is Woman’s Day and I am pretty pumped.  Me being a woman and all.  I want to toast my girlfriends today because it is “Ladies Nights” that really make us women, hear us roar.

Yes, this was the funniest thing that ever happened to me ever.

Important Lessons Learn on Ladies Night:

  • If you call anything Tapas, we will eat it
  • If you call anything ‘tini we will drink it
  • If anyone offers you a free George Forman, don’t take it
  • Guys do weird shit in their sleep
  • “Oh by the way, here is my biggest secret ever….”
  • No matter how drunk I am, I still can’t dance…or model
  • Nacho cheese is always a good idea
  • Yes, next morning you, you really said that

I have found a very important life lesson out recently.  I am WAY too connected.  I dropped drunk dialing in college but now because of the blog I find myself drunk tweeting, commenting, emailing, texting, writing weird stuff on social network sites.  No good, but kind of hilarious.

Happy Woman’s Day ladies, follow my lead and take to the day to cleanse yourself of your weekend self-loathing and eat a pastry.  We deserve it.

Black and Tan

March 8, 2010 by jadeylangley

Friday was Doug’s last day at work.  Guess what?  Another party, this time thrown by this co-workers at the local brewery.  When they suggested we have a party next Friday to see how his first week went I just accepted that this is Doug’s month, and please, I am always up for a party.  As you can tell from my very creative title I wore black and tan (sad story, they don’t make a Black and Tan at the brewery), mostly because I found an insane deal on a pair of Kors Michael Kors Booties at Marshall’s.

Though on Zappos a couple of days ago they had the orignial priced marked as $390, down to $180, now they are sold out.  $10.  I was flying high.  Until…..

Michael Kors hates feet and wants them to die.  These shoes hit every terrible pressure point possible on my feet=instant spasm.  They aren’t like blister hurty, they are like charlie house hurty.  I had to take tylenol to drive in them.  Brutal.  I pulled into the bar where I was meeting everyone (less than a mile from my house) and considered turning around and changing.  Instead I started drinking, fast.  So here is the best I can pull together for an outfit post!

You got the whole outfit, just in bits and pieces, which is exactly how my brain felt the next morning.  Yes, that is a red wine spritzer.  I don’t know why.  As far as the shoes go, I think I am going to get then stretched.  They are jut so pretty and shiny, though I considered throwing them in the ocean on the way home.  Turns out they bested me, because they made it back safely.

The List

I wanted winter wedges, but at this point it is so close to spring, I just want wedges.  These are a great substitute for a great winter/spring transition shoe.  Still a bootie (which I envisioned for my wedges) and super cheap, so if wedges are banished next winter I am only out $10.

Snow Snow Go Away

March 5, 2010 by jadeylangley

You. Are. Killing. Me. Weardrobe.  I love the Weardrobe contests, I think they are fun little projects.  Their latest contest?  Spring Break. Well I woke up with snow on the ground, but that’s not going to stop me.  Lies, it kind of stopped me, this shoot did not go as planned…

Here is where it started:

Obvi, there were going no place good and it’s frickin’ freezin.  So I decided to hug a palm tree instead:

Soooooo, I am undecided if I will submit any of these pics for the contest.  I would be happy to take suggestions!  I love my tree. Ahh my little oasis.  At least the sun was out today. Blerg.

Highbrow Eyebrows and other Makeover Musings

March 5, 2010 by jadeylangley

I finally cut my hair.  I asked for the Justin Bieber, but this is what I came out with.  I guess it works.  Ok I love it.

More finally, I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time in…well way to long. This as all I ever wanted in a cut, it’s sleek and chic (that sounds like a condom ad).  My Sis-in-law is my stylist and she is a miracle worker.  I want to say she should be off styling for the stars but she really is the biggest fish in a good sized pond. Here are some teaser pics:

I am still doing an outfit post today, so come back for more makeover pics!  These pics came out wonky.  It feels very weird.  My hair was so long.  I keep going to touch it and it’s just not there.  I sound like an amputee.  It’s not that bad Jade. I actually think it could go a touch shorter, baby steps.

What do you think?

Freebie!!

Don’t worry, it was totally ethical.  I have to say I love GILT, especially GILT Fuse.  They are all my fav, just out of reach, designers.  They have the best prices of the “sale boutiques” cheapest shipping (some are outrageous) and give the best credits.  They gave me a $20 credit just for taking a survey, I got another $25 when I an item I ordered was over sold (I was never charged for it).  I didn’t realize how much I had in credits until I NEEDED this C&C California Tunic, when I checked out, FREE! I still had credit to spare, but we will get to that in a future post.

Did I mention their distribution center is really close to my house so I get my order instantly!  I took these pics as kind of a teaser, for posting purposes.  I could style this a million ways, tucked into trousers, over skinny jeans, as a dress not belted.  I would love to see it with a little neon…  The sleeves can also be worn three different ways.  It’s crazy.  Someone with my intellect should not be allowed to purchase such a complex garment.

Side note: I make really tense weird faces when the hubby takes my pics, here I just set my camera on my desk with a timer.  No scary face.  I will have to keep this in mind.

If you want to sign up for GILT click here for in invite.  Enjoy!

The Terrible Shirt

March 3, 2010 by jadeylangley

This tee is my first love, though we have been legally separate for a couple of year.  See my gorgeous sister and I have joint costody.  Someone left the Terrible Shirt at her apartment after a college party.  Must have been a good one! I constantly stole it and managed to smuggle it off to college with me.

I hadn’t seen the Terrible Shirt for a couple of years, but I starting thinking of it when I came to the realization that a lot of my faux life in the blogging world is based in PA!  Stylish White Female, Crowded-Closet, Modlife/Modcloth, and that’s just naming a few!  I stopped by my sister’s house last week and she said, “Do you want the terrible shirt?”  Yes please!

So to all the ladies!:

Girlfriend needs a facial! I am so over weather systems.  To be very honest I had no idea this was a football reference until about 2 years into wearing it.  I just thought it was a really cleaver shirt.  Obviously this shirt out-witted me.  Not a difficult task, but touche.  I may be in New England but I an a huge fan of this shirt. While I am on the topic: Really Randy Moss?  Really?
