Toughen Up

March 2, 2010 by jadeylangley

It is obvious I take a “jazz up tee and jeans” approach to fashion. We have been over this, let’s move on.  I love mixing very “sweet” basic pieces with tougher ones.  I rarely go straight-up girlie.  Much rarer than going straight up martini. Zing!  These past couple of weeks have been insane.  I had finals last week and since I work in Emergency Preparedness in real life the storms in the North East have kept me very busy.  I have to say I am really for a new start this week now that everything has died down.  I am on a new monthly budget and, rumor has it, spring is coming.  I want dresses! I need dresses.  I also need to shave my legs because it’s been a long winter, kittens.

The only word I can use to describe this cardi is “precious.”  There really is not much to is but the shape, length and the sweet little eye’s-of-a-teeny-tiny-bunny buttons get me every time.  To answer your question: yes I did take cold medicine today.  Why?

I did my best good girl goes bad (I my mind anyway, I am not great at pulling off either) but I threw on polished heels, torn skinny jeans, an uneven hemmed top and of course my current favorite: my vintage silk scarf.  This scarf was a close to the register impulse buy last time I went to our local vintage shop.  I almost put it in for Mailbox Mavens, but I’ll miss her too much.

Next time I wear the tank I want to belt it low on the hips with a really boxy jacket and skinny black pants….mmmmm….maybe tomorrow?!

Introducing: The Mailbox Mavens!

March 1, 2010 by jadeylangley

I know I promised an announcement days ago but the storms out here knocked out my interwebs for the better part of Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  So here it is!

Christina of Fabulosity in Amish Country contacted several other bloggers to start up a style exchange via Flickr.  I thought it was a great idea so of course I joined in.  We will be exchanging clothes, some for keepsies (of as I like to call it, donating to the cause of fashion) and some we will return to each other.  Without further adieu here are the girls!

Kyla from Blue Collar Catwalk
Megan from the Discerning Fashionista
Amy from the Bargain Hunter Extraordinaire
Terra from Stylish White Female
Christina from Fabulosity in Amish Country
Tabitha from Fashion Therapist
Julia from Song of the Exile
Elyse from The Style Rider
Clare from Between Laundry Days
JoAnn from Sidewalk Chalk
Brianne from BrianneLee
AB from The Owl’s Closet
And Me, of course!

You may recognize some of these ladies from my blogroll or previous posts (Tabitha and Terra, you know who you are!).  This is going to be really fun.  It is a great way for us to mix up our style but it is also economical!  Blogging really is a community, this is a great way for us to be inspired and inspire our readers, or just keep you interested :) .  Check out our flickr page (it should go live today or tomorrow) and blogs to see how we styled each other’s pieces and see which clothing items we are fighting over.

Fun fun!

New Post: Old Post

February 25, 2010 by jadeylangley

I wouldn’t really call this a new post because I took these pictures this weekend.  Like I said before: we celebrate a lot in this family. Though we already had dinner and karaoke plans this night we certainly toasted, or sake-bombed to all the exciting things going on, including my sister getting a fancy trophy/national award for an ad campaign (Am, did I say that right?)

It wasn’t my most fashionable night, but it was certainly memorable and I got some good pics out of it!

Easy does it Jadey.  The gods would not allow pictures in the karaoke bar, none of the pictures came out and it was probably for the best.  P.S. I am starting to feel like Sandra Lee, ending every post with a fancy drink.

The List

I have been living in their cardigan.  It’s so flattering and the fringe is so right-now.  Great investment for $20-something!

Cardi: Forever 21

Bow Tee: Gap-Clearance

Jeans: Gap

Easy Breezy

February 23, 2010 by jadeylangley

I believe, I believe.  I recently, and by recently I mean for two years, decided I just wasn’t going to leave the house on crappy days.  Yeah thats kind of sad but I have been arguing with my fellow New Englander’s for two years that the winters here are super mild, so it’s working for me.  The weather has been beautiful here the past couple of weeks, despite being quite breezy.  We have gotten some significant snow but the kind of snow that seems like a distant memory a couple of days later.  I am ready to get into skirts and dresses.  I am ready.

This is the first time I have whipped out my chambray shirt since this.  Not only am I in a SKIRT but fishnets, skipping right over tights!  This was a fun get-up that I think is appropriate for work and play.

The List

The only clothing item in this outfit that is even remotely new is the skirt.  I got it off the H&M clearance rack for $10.  Sweet!  Perfect “All Occasion Clothing.”

Chambray Shirt: Forever 21

Leather Belt: Vintage

Skirt: H&M

Nude Fishnets: Target

Nude Pumps: Steve Madden

Leopard Headband: Marshall’s

No Pants Dance Off

February 22, 2010 by jadeylangley

Go Gorgeous Gal is totally going to disown me!  Yes I know leggings aren’t pants, but sometimes I just don’t care. Faux pas or not, I’m going for it.  My professional boy toy also said I looked like a movie star so I can’t argue with that!  There is a genetic syndrome that runs in my family called Hyper-Excessive-Celebration or “What the HEC?!”  Which is exactly what we said when we decided to take the hubby out for new job celebration #2, see celebration #3 tomorrow.  Like I said, excessive.

A great scholar once told me “Po Po, Po Po Zao.  In Portuguese it means ‘bring ya ass.’”  I really took that to heart.

I think I should have taken a cue from Coco Chanel and lost the headband, which I did seconds after taking these pics.  At least I had the sense to loose it before going out in public.  I think I am biting the bullet on cutting my hair this week if time allows, but look how pretty it is!

THE LIST

I kind of cheated because, unfortunately, I was preparing for a funeral when I made this list.  I bought this blouse at Zara for “dressy all occasion wear.”

Swing Coat: Jasmin Sola

Top: Zara

Leggings and Headband: Forever 21

Shoes: Seychelles

Were Gonna Have a Good Time Tonight

February 19, 2010 by jadeylangley

It’s a celebration bitches! Though, maybe this post should be titled “I heart jeans, I heart lamp,” maybe I should just change the name of this blog.

Yesterday was a big day.  We picked up the new car, I applied to my first grad school and….the hubby got a new job!  Be prepared for a long post, I’ve got quite a few photos.  It was time for a celebration.  A mini celebration.  Though it may appear things got a bit out of hand….

So this is where the night began.  Seems pretty simple and innocent.  It didn’t take long for this to happen:

Who said a plastic bib isn’t chic?  I predict they are all over the runway next Fashion Week.  You saw it here first!  I don’t think we knew what we were getting ourselves into when we ordered the crab legs, though we should have, they were called “Messy Crab.”  Maybe I shouldn’t Be applying to grad schools….

Then thing got crazy.

Ok we are a pretty tame bunch, though some people classify caffeine as a drug!  You have to admit the first pic is pretty hilarious.  Imaging that is the first thing you see when you walk into a room?  My brother’s friend, Ryan, bought this roaster and a shat-ton of Columbia’s finest.  It is a really cool process.  I got a little lesson on beans and roasting.  Man do the roasting beans smell amazing. Thanks for the lesson, Ryan!

Nanny-mani

February 18, 2010 by jadeylangley

As previously stated I have resolved to keep my nails manicured in honor of my Nana, but first I want to find a good local manicurist.  I asked a friend where she went and she suggested a place I used to go to in high school.  While they did a great job and the price was right at $12, the owner is a creepy dude with a baby.  Yup.  Not to mention the girl who did my nails was OFFENDED by my color choice.  Like, “never in my 15 year career!” kind of offended, and not just once, at least 5 times.

While I still love the color, to which I got many compliments on, thank you very much, I do not think I will be returning.  I don’t need the guy with the baby following me around and saying very inappropriate things when his wife was out of ear shot. Poor baby.

I have been asking around some more and think I may have found “the place.”  I plan on getting my nails done their tomorrow, I will certainly keep y’all informed!

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPA/SALON HORROR STORIES?

To Gap with Love

February 17, 2010 by jadeylangley

I have said it once and I will say it again: I am obsessed with the Gap’s Premium Denim line.  Since I had the baby I think I have exclusively bought their jeans.  I don’t want to spend a fortune on jeans right now because I am hoping my body will go back to normal, though almost a year later that is looking bleak.  How about this?  I don’t want to spend a lot on jeans because I have no money. I am also pissed at the snow.  Just cause.

I have to admit I was on the verge of a breakdown at the mall on Monday.  I hate to complain about my body because I understand it could be a lot worse.  It was just on of those shopping trips.  I need a mid-rise jean at this stage in my life.  Right now is the rebellion of high-rise, even NY&Co didn’t have mid-rise skinny jeans.  After about a million store I hit the Gap.  Guess what!  They had mid-rise skinnies.  Bonus, they run big so I was able to size down. Crisis overterted.

The List

Jean alternative or just jeans?  I was so focused on not wearing jeans that I realized I don’t really have a nice everyday pair anymore.  Since these are a mid-rise with an extra button I vote they count.

Blazer: Express, 1 million years old

Tee: Forever 21

Jeans: Gap

Boots: American Eagle, 2 million years old

Neon Belt: J. Crew

Tree: Some sort of fruit?

Love Maker, Rule Breaker

February 16, 2010 by jadeylangley

Eww, did I just say “make love”?  In case you are all sick of hearing about my realtionship so I will keep it brief.  We extended out Valentine’s celebration to Sunday brunch.  Well we go to brunch every Sunday, but this week I wore a dress.  What it dress it was.  It doesn’t photograph as well as I had hoped.  Shift dress+big boobs=ehh.  I won’t have big boobs for much longer and I still love it.  I got it at Forever 21 during my shopping spree last week though it looks and fits better than some dresses 4x the price.

I am submitting some the first picture for the Forever Sweetheart Contest as well.  Though I already won one Valentine’s Contest so I am happy as a Clam Gram.  What’s a Clam Gram you ask.  You will find out.  In due time. Yes, I am watching entirely too much Lost.  I am on a Private Beach after all.  Am I an “Other”?

I hope you like the hat, because you will be seeing a lot of it!  I cannot wait to wear this dress with a jean jacket or a little vest or something.  Definitely something a little more structured.  It is beautiful lace with a 100% silk shell.  I may get a different slip to wear under it though because this one is very short.

The List:

Remember my first list?  I said a pretty off-white lace shift did not exists.  Well it does.  For like $20.  Love it.  Now I just need some wedges to go with it. Hehe.

Fedora: Banana Republic

Fringe Cardi: Forever 21

Tights: Target

Oxfords: Navid O Nadia

Winner Winner Winner! Shopmamie.com Blog “Sweetest Thing” Contest!

February 16, 2010 by jadeylangley

I will never live this one down.  As I am sure many wives do, I have to admit I sometimes comment on how I need a little more romance.  My husband, not so much a fan of this said “comment.”  Well I think we owed each other an apology this morning when I found out I won the “Sweetest Thing” Contest on the shopmamie.com blog! He owes me one because he says I don’t give him any credit, which I do and have proof! And I own him one because these are the kind of sweet things he does that define our relationship.

Below is the Post from Shopmamie.com:

Winner of our Sweetest Thing Contest

Thank you all for sharing your stories with us!  We absolutely LOVED reading all of your entries as did all of our readers.  However, we had to pick just one winner for the contest and we would like to announce Jade as the winner of our ‘Sweetest Thing Contest!’  We thought that it was such an incredibly sweet story and was by far the most unique entry of all!  Jade is the winner of a $25 Shopmamie.com Gift Certificate.

Jade’s story: “When I was a toddler/young child I had this plastic turtle wearing a sailor hat and wheels for feet and a little string to pull it along with. It went missing when I was 5 or 6 and I never got over it. I jokingly told my husband this story when we started dating. When my birthday came around 6 months later he gave me a small square box. When I opened it it burst into tears. It was my little turtle. He spent months calling stores, companies and searching online with only my description from the one time I had mentioned it. To me that was true love. Now 7 years later our 1 year old daughter loves it.”

We just found out that Jade has an awesome blog called www.lowbrowstyle.com so be sure to check it out :)

Hope everyone had a SWEET Valentine’s Day! Keep looking out for many more contests to come! xoxo The Mamie Girls!

Ok, I had to fix a typing error I made!  I am really excited about this.  Thanks so much to Mamie Girls and my lovely Husband!  V-day just keeps on giving this year! What to buy?!
